Charlie B. Wilder (aka Captain Planet) 는 그의 십 대 시절부터 뉴욕의 힙합으로부터 영감을 받아 디제잉과 비트를 만들기 시작했다. 그 이후로 그는 샘플을 찾기 위해 바이널 디깅을 시작했고 곧이어 라틴, 레게, 아프리칸 음악 같은 월드 사운드 스타일에 관심을 갖기 시작했다. WNYU 라디오의 ” Passport” 쇼의 월드뮤직 디제이로 활동을 시작한 이후로 그는 링컨센터 공립 도서관의 월드음악 섹션을 자주 방문 하게 되었고 결국 그곳의 모든 바이널 컬렉션을 획득하게 되었다.

이런 월드 레코드들을 힙합 프로듀서들이 전통적이게 샘플을 만들듯, 월드 사운드는 그만의 트레드마크 스타일인 “Gumbo Funk” 의 소재로 쓰였다. 2005년 Bastard Jazz에서 12″ 로 데뷔로 수천 개 를 판매하고 그 이후로 Little Dragon, Erykah Badu, Katy B, Mayer Hawthorne, Mia Doi Todd, and Gilles Peterson’s Havana Cultura project 와 같은 수많은 리믹스 작업을 하였다. 유명한 미국 드라마인 Entourage, CSI:NY & Orange Is The New Black 의 음악 작업을 하고 그 이후에 EP 2 full-length 앨범 3개를 발매 하였고 New Yorker’s “Best Music of 2012 리스트에 “Mystery Trip Vol. 1” 을 포함한 다수의 믹스 테입을 만들었다.

캡틴 플라넷의 절충적인 음악 블로그인 MixtapeRiot.com 은 세계적인 디제이, 테이스트메이커와 음악을 뮤직 러버로부터 아주 많은 사랑을 받고 있다. 언더그라운드 댄스 음악, 독점적인 리믹스, 디제이 믹스를 꾸준하게 스트림으로 제공하고 있다. 넓은 범위의 다양한 스타일 (NY hip hop, Jamaican dancehall, Turkish Psychedelic, Nigerian Afrobeat and beyond)로 이루어진 캡틴 플라넷만의 트레이드 마크 사운드는 성숙된 유니크함과 일렉트로닉 형태 음악의 장르와 대륙 사이를 리듬으로 통해 다리 같은 역할을 한다.

Fueled by an early love of New York Hip-Hop, Charlie B. Wilder (aka Captain Planet) began DJing and making beats in his teens. He soon developed an obsession with vinyl and digging for samples, which led to an appreciation of Reggae, Latin and African music, as well as a curiosity for other styles from around the world. After being offered a primetime slot playing strictly world music on WNYU’s “Passport” radio show, Wilder began making frequent trips to the World Music section of Lincoln Center’s Public Library, eventually acquiring their entire vinyl collection. Flipping these same World records the way Hip-Hop producers traditionally sample, these international sounds became the ingredients he used in his trademark “Gumbo Funk” style.

His 2005 debut 12” on Bastard Jazz sold thousands of copies and led to remixes for artists like Little Dragon, Erykah Badu, Katy B, Mayer Hawthorne, Mia Doi Todd, and Gilles Peterson’s Havana Cultura project – not to mention placements on numerous TV shows such as Entourage, CSI:NY & Orange Is The New Black. Since then, the Captain has released 3 more EP’s and 2 full-length albums, along with a slew of mixtapes including “Mystery Trip Vol. 1”, which was included in the New Yorker’s “Best Music of 2012” list.

Wilder’s eclectic music blog MixtapeRiot.com has become a popular go-to for DJ’s, tastemakers, and music lovers worldwide; providing them with a steady stream of underground dance music, exclusive remixes, and DJ mixes. Blending a wide range of styles (from NY hip hop, Jamaican dancehall, Turkish Psychedelic, Nigerian Afrobeat and beyond), Captain Planet’s trademark sound has matured into a truly unique form of electronic music that bridges gaps between world between genres and connects continents through rhythm.
