아일랜드 출신이자 맨체스터에서 살고 있으며 전직 마드리드 RBMA의 학생이기도 했던 Krystal Klear이지만 그를 1986년 즈음의 뉴욕의 햇빛을 가득 품은 테라스 위로 반짝이는 댄스플로어의 조종석이 아닌 다른 곳에서 상상하기란 쉽지 않다. Boogie, Funk, Hip-hop에 이르는 영감은 어렵지 않게 곡 안에서 함께 어우러지며 새어나오는 매끄럽고 절제된 쾌락주의는 음악이 0%의 허식과 100%의 소울을 가졌을 시기의 생생한 부활을 다시금 상기시킨다.|
그는 2010년 초반 Mary Anne Hobbs의 전설적인 Radio 1에서 게스트 믹스를 선보인 이후로 Organizer(‘Greensilver’)와 그의 강렬한 ‘Tried For Your Love’ (remixed by Hudson Mohawke)와 클럽을 강타하는 ‘We’re Wrong’를 발표한 All City와 같은 레이블에서 트랙을 연달아 공개함으로써 가장 인정받는 셀렉터들 중 하나가 되었다.
마술이 그러하듯 그의 능력은 항상 의식하지 못한 채로 우리의 몸을 들썩이게 만든다. 최근 Eglo와 RInse라는 유행제조 레이블과의 릴리즈에서, 하우스 계의 전설 Kerri Chandler는 2012년 후반기에 내놓은 매혹적인 ‘More Attention’과 ‘My Love Is Burning’이라는 관능적이도록 매혹적인 한 쌍의 발…표를 통해 그의 음악에 자신의 MadTech 표식을 얹는 데까지 나아갔다.
언제 어디서든 Krystal Klear는 방송과 댄스플로어 모두에 한결같이 든든한 서포트가 되어왔다. Mary Anne Hobbs의 초기 시절의 강력한 지지는 Annie Mac, Trevor Nelson, Toddla T, Gilles Peterson 그리고 Rob Da Bank와 같은 이들이 모두 그들의 쇼에서 플레이 버튼을 누르도록 만들었고 심지어 그는 지금 Rinse FM에서 고정 시간대를 가진 호스트로서 활약하고 있다.

Pistil은 Krystal Klear의 첫 한국 방문을 소개하게 되어 기쁘다.

Born in Ireland, a resident of Manchester and a former pupil of Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid, it’s hard to picture Krystal Klear anywhere other than at the helm of a shimmering dance floor on a sun-soaked terrace in New York, circa 1986. Inspirations ranging from boogie to funk to hip-hop slip together effortlessly in to tunes that ooze slick, understated hedonism, his music conjuring up a refreshing revival of when music had 0% pretension, and 100% soul.
Krystal Klear has become one of the most on-point selectors around since a guest mix for Mary Anne Hobbs’ fabled Radio 1 show in early 2010 was followed by a string of his own track releases on labels like Organizer (‘Greensilver’) and All City, for whom he released the massive ‘Tried For Your Love’ (remixed by Hudson Mohawke) and the club smash ‘We’re Wrong’.
Always, his ability to make bodies move as if by magic has not gone unnoticed. On top of recent releases on tastemaker label Eglo and Rinse, house legend Kerri Chandler reached out to put out his music on his MadTech imprint, releasing the sultry pairing of ‘More Attention’ and ‘My Love Is Burning’ in late 2012.
Throughout, Krystal Klear has enjoyed strong support from the airwaves and dance floors alike. On top of Mary Anne Hobbs’ early rubber-stamp of approval, Annie Mac, Trevor Nelson, Toddla T, Gilles Peterson and Rob Da Bank have all hit the play button on their shows, and he now even hosts his own regular slot on Rinse FM.
