SCRATCHA DVA @ CAKESHOP

2014년 현재 전 세계 언더그라운드 댄스뮤직씬의 집단들을 대상으로 ‘전통’과 ‘혁신’이라는 두 가지 잣대를 사용해 평가하여 순위대로 나열한다면, 분명 그 선두에는 Hyperdub 레이블이 존재해야 한다. 작년 12월 창립자인 Kode9이 직접 서울에서 그것을 증명해 보였었다. 그리고 이제는 Hyperdub의 최전방 공격수로서 왕성하게 활동하고 있는 베테랑 프로듀서/디제이 Scratcha DVA가 5월 1일 Cakeshop에서 다시 한 번 그것을 확인시켜 줄 예정이다.

If we could evaluate the groups of present global underground dance music scene in 2014 by two standards such as ‘tradition’ and ‘innovation’, Hyperdub label must be on the front row without doubt. Kode9, the founder of the label has so proved it in Seoul last december. And now, Scratcha DVA, Hyperdub’s front row striker and veteran producer/DJ, will show us again on the 1st of May at Cakeshop.

Scratcha DVA는 분명 주목해야 할 프로듀서이다. 당신이 지금 검색을 통해 몇 대표트랙을 들어본다면 알 수 있겠지만, 케익샵을 거쳐 간 수많은 디제이들의 세트 속에 비밀카드로 숨겨놓은 바로 그 트랙들의 주인공이다. DJ Rashad, Fatima, Kode9, Ikonika, Cornelia, Terror Danjah와 같은 훌륭한 아티스들과의 콜라보를 보여주며 꾸준한 프로듀싱활동을 하고있다. 데뷔 앨범에서 보여준 사운드는 소울풀 했다. 홈그라운드 런던에서 들을 수 있는 각종 조잡하면서도 어센틱한 지역적 사운드를 위트있게 녹여낸 트랙들에서는 평소 생활 속에서 음악을 녹여내는 그의 습성이 여실히 드러났다. 그러나 그의 최근 믹스테입과 EP를 체크해보면 알 수 있듯, 그는 또한 댄스플로어 테러범이기도 하다. 각종 베이스 장르의 리듬에 대한 연구를 통해 무자비하게 플로어를 뒤집어놓는 훌륭한 뱅어 트랙들을 선보이고 있다.

Scratcha DVA is a producer we must pay attention to. If you listen to some of his major tracks you would easily find out that he’s the dude behind the tracks that numerous DJs who played at Cakeshop use as their hidden cards. He’s been constantly producing finest tracks with fellow artists such as DJ Rashad, Fatima, Kode9, Ikonika, Cornelia, and Terror Danjah. The sound he has shown in his debut album is soulful enough. From his tracks, you can obviously check his habit of seeing his daily life as the source of his music by blending all sorts of shoddy but authentic and local sound collected in his homeground London. Though seen on his recent mixtape and EP, he is also a dancefloor terrorist. He’s shown excellent banger tracks that totally have destroyed the floors by serious research on rythms of diverse bass genres.

또한, 그는 좋은 DJ이다. 6년간 전설의 영국발 해적판 라디오 Rinse FM의 장수 아침방송인 “Grimey Breakfast Show”를 담당해 온 터주대감 DJ로, Grime 뿐 아니라 UK Funky, Hip Hop, Garage, Footwork등의 다양한 베이스 장르를 아우르는 선곡으로 런던 씬에 관여해왔으며, 최근에는 매 월 Hyperdub Show를 진행하고 있다. Fabric, FWD, Outlook Festival, BBC Radio 등지에서의 지속해온 그의 행보는 거의 런던 씬의 모든 구석구석에 영향을 끼치고 있다 해도 과언이 아니다. 이제 그의 세트를 서울의 Cakehop에서 그것도 5월의 황금휴가가 시작되는 목요일에 직접 들어볼 수 있게 되었다.

Also he is a good DJ. He had hosted “Grimey Breakfast Show” on UK pirate radio Rinse FM for 6 long years playing various bass gems including grime, UK Funky, Hip Hop, Garage and Footwork. Recently he is involving in London’s scene by hosting monthly Hyperdub Show. His acclaimed former steps seen in Fabric, FWD, Outlook Festival, BBC Radio and many other channels are constantly influencing in and outs of London music scene. You can finally get locked into his set in real at Cakeshop in Seoul on thursday, on the beginning of the exciting May holidays.
