Marcel Fengler 에게 있어 테크노란 너무나 명백하고 결연한 열정의 끝, 혹은 그 이상을 의미한다. 클럽 Berghain 의 오픈 첫날부터 그 역사를 함께 했던 Marcel Fengler 는 그만의 확고한 방식대로, 소위 음악 저널리스트들이 말하는 Berghain 레지던트 디제이들에 의해 만들어진, ‘Berghain sound’ 를 형성하는데 기여해 왔다. Marcel Fengler 의 음악에는 그 특별한 ‘Berghain sound’ 와 함께 영국의 진보적인 테크노에서 영향받은 앰비언트와 일렉트로니카 사운드가 대등하게 공존하고 있다. 그의 디제이 세트는 공격적이고 역동적인 일관성을 유지하면서도 순간 놀라운 감성적인 측면을 함께 들려주곤 한다. 마치 테크놀로지와 기계들에 의해 지배되고 있는 세상에서 따듯한 인간적인 성향이 대비되듯이, 그의 음악속에서 이러한 상반된 느낌들은 뚜렷히 대비되어 누구나 손쉽게 그의 감성들을 느낄수 있다.
그의 디제이 세트와 마친가지로 스튜디오 창작물에서도 이러한 성향들을 발견할 수 있다. 어두운 일렉트로 사운드와 강하고 안정감있는 테크노 안에서 Marcel Fengler 는 그가 선호하는 신디사이져의 패드소리를 통해 감성적인 깊이를 자연스럽게 조절하며, 이러한 방식으로 트랙의 전체를 조화롭게 완성시키려는 실험들을 지속하고 있다. 결과물의 양보다는 그 퀄리티를 최우선으로 고려하며, 그의 기준에 맞지않는 트랙들은 결코 스튜디오 밖으로 나갈 수 없다. 이것은 ‘목적 이전에 열정’ 이라는 Marcel Fengler 만의 확고한 성향을 함축적으로 보여주고 있는 부분이다.

Techno according to Marcel Fengler has nothing to do with being a go‐getter or having an alternative career, it is way more than means to an end: it is his definitive and concentrated passion. In MarcelFengler’s world, opposites attract. Ambient and electronica are equal parts in his sets that owe as much to the UK’s progressive school of relentless techno as they do to that special ‘Berghain sound’. A dictum created by music journalists and a description that is a diverging as Berghain’s resident DJs.
Being one of them since day one, Fengler made his very own and self‐confident contribution to that sound. He really knows his craft. Fengler’s DJ sets are characteristically offensive and dynamic, hard and consistent, but also surprising and emotional. In a realm that is dominated by technology and machines, his bright personality and the human aspect stay visible. You can feel his personal touch.
A similar versatility can also be found in his studio work. Marcel’s fondness for synth pads goes along with gloomy electro, hard and steady‐paced techno doesn’t compete with his sense for moods and deepness. His search for different parts that work as a whole is as visible here as it is in his DJ style.Marcel Fengler looks for quality over quantity. Nothing leaves his studio that hasn’t passed this test. Neither artificial shortage of releases nor coyness, this behaviour is essentially Marcel Fengler: passion before purpose.
