힙합과 팝 음악 역사에서 가장 큰 명성과 성공을 얻은 엔지니어의 한 명으로서 Young Guru는 Jay Z뿐만 아니라 Beyonce, Rihanna, Ludacris, Ghostface Killah, Freeway, Cam’ron, Redman & Method Man, Mariah Carey, Pete Rock, Fabolous, Talib Kweli, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony 그리고 T.I.에 이르는 여러 아티스트들과 작업하며 중요한 역할로 자리매김하였다
케이크샵의 5/21 Thursday club에서, 살아있는 전설 Young Guru의 DJ 셋을 소개하게 되어 진심으로 기쁘게 생각한다.
Revered as “The Sound of New York,” Young Guru, possesses over a decade of experience in sound engineering, production, and A&R for the acclaimed Roc-A-Fella Records and Def Jam Records. Most recognized for shaping some of the biggest talent in Hip Hop, As Jay Z’s right hand man in the studio, Young Guru has mixed 10 of Jay-Z’s 11 albums, and has earned himself a number of shout-outs on Jay-Z’s tracks paying homage to his exceptional skills behind the boards. Influenced by early Hip Hop, Rock & Roll, Electro, House and Soul music, Young Guru’s skill set has definitively branded him as a true sound genius and orchestrator.
As one of the most famous and successful engineers in the history of Hip Hop and Pop music, Young Guru has been a major part of several artists’ careers in addition to Jay-Z, including Beyonce, Rihanna, Ludacris, Ghostface Killah, Freeway, Cam’ron, Redman & Method Man, Mariah Carey, Pete Rock, Fabolous, Talib Kweli, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and T.I.
With so many hit songs on his belt, a highlight was a Grammy nomination for his work on Jay Z’s and Alicia Key’s “Empire State of Mind”. Young Guru officially became Jay-Z’s tour DJ in 2010 and was the DJ for the ‘watch the Throne tour’ with Kanye West. It’s also as a DJ where Guru started in the music industry some 20-plus years ago, and a DJ he still remains today. Blessed with an encyclopedic knowledge of music acquired over a career that has seen the DJ literally travel the globe in search of the perfect beat, his sets are rooted in hip-hop, but make pleasant deviations through all other genres and cultures great and small.
