U-Noo는 서울 출신의 DJ/Producer로, 2007년부터 프로듀싱을 시작하여 리믹스 트랙, 믹스셋 등을 꾸준히 공개해 왔으며, 신사동 소셜클럽, 이태원 케익샵 등의 클럽/라운지에서 플레이하며 DJ로서의 본격적인 활동을 이어왔다.

디제이 할때 제일 즐거운 점?
무엇보다 내가 들려주고 싶은 음악들을 듣는 이들과 공유할 수 있다는 점.
나아가 한 공간의 무드를 이끌어가는 역할을 할 수 있다는 점에서 매력을 느낀다.

디제이는 어떻게 하다가 시작을 했는지?
학창시절부터 Rap, R&B, Soul, Jazz 등을 즐겨 들으며 Beat making을 먼저 시작하게 되었다.
수 년 전 우연한 기회로 서울에 위치한 Mass, Answer 등의 클럽에서 사진 촬영 일을 하게 되었는데, 그 때 많은 해외 아티스트들의 공연을 가까이 접하게 되면서 House music을 포함한 Electronic music 문화 전반에 매력을 느꼈고, 관련 아티스트들과 트랙들을 찾아 들으며 자연스럽게 DJing을 시작하게 되었다.

해외 활동 경험이 있다면, 한국과의 차이점은?
아쉽게도 해외에서의 공연은 아직 가져본 적이 없으나, 아마도 올 여름 첫 해외 공연 기회가 있을 것 같다. 확정된 사항은 아니어서 자세한 사항은 말씀드리기 어려울 것 같다.

한국 언더그라운드 씬에 변화가 있다고 생각 하는지? 있다면 어떤 식으로?
아티스트들이 SNS나 SoundCloud 등을 통해 자신들의 존재를 알릴 수 있게 되면서, 재미있고 다양한 시도들이 이루어지고 있어, 이 문화를 응원하는 사람으로서 매우 즐겁고 기쁘게 생각한다.
반면, 이런 변화와 다양성을 수용하고 멋지게 소화해내는 클럽은 아직 극소수에 불과한 것 같아 그 점이 아쉽다.

본인의 음악 색깔은 어떤 색깔일 것 같은지?
굳이 표현하자면 DJ로서는 Black, 프로듀서로서는.. Green? 어려운 질문이다!

프로듀싱, 작곡 활동도 하고 있는지?
몇 해 전부터 간간이 SoundCloud를 통해 remix나 데모 트랙들을 공개했다.
지난 3월에 있었던 서울패션위크에서 국내 디자이너 브랜드 Surreal But Nice의 2014 F/W 컬렉션 음악을 프로듀싱하였다. 이런 형태의 작업은 처음인지라 어려운 점도 많았지만 흥미로운 작업이었다.
가장 최근에는 국내 힙합 레이블 Hi-Lite Records에서 발매될 Reddy의 Imaginary Foundation 앨범 전곡에 프로듀서로 참여하였다. 수록곡 중 ‘1985’, ‘마술’ 두 곡은 이미 싱글로 공개되었다.
앞으로도 DJ로서 들려드리는 음악 스타일과 별개로 다양한 작업들을 이어나갈 계획이다.

What is your favourite aspect of DJing?
More than anything else, I l just love sharing music with people who want to listen. I like using music to create an atomsphere.

How did you start DJing?
During my school years, I loved to listen to Rap, R&B, Soul, and Jazz and started to make beats.
Years ago, I started taking pictures in Seoul clubs like Mass, Answer, etc … Being around lots of different foreign artists, I started to really dig House and the whole Electronic music culture. I ended up DJing from there.

What do you think is different between the club scene in Korea and other countries?
Unfortunately, I still haven’t Dj’ed abroad. I may have my first gig outside of korea this summer. It’s yet to be confirmed, though.

Do you think there has a been an evolution in the Korean underground scene?
Through Soundcloud and the other various social media outlets, more artists are able to showcase themselves. As a result, a lot of cool stuff is coming out. I’m a big supporter of the scene, so I’m really excited to see it grow.

What do you think is your musical color?
As a DJ I would say Black, as a producer … Maybe green? Tricky question!

Do you also produce?
Several years ago I was releasing a lot of remixes and demo tracks through Soundcloud.
This March, I did some production for the Surreal But Nice 2014 F/W collection at Seoul Fashion Week. It was the first time I’d done something like that. It was a lot of work, but it was an interesting experience.
I also produced for Reddy’s new album Imaginary Foundation which will come out on the Korean Hip-Hop label Hi-Lite Records. The title track 1985 and second single Masul have already been released.
I want to showcase a lot of different styles through my production.
