Abyss from the online blog “Billie Birkin” Introduces Deep house, Nu disco and different kinds of indie music to Korea

Abyss는 일렉트로닉 음악 미디어 ‘billie birkin’을 운영하며 국내에 딥하우스, 하우스, 누디스코, 비트 뮤직 등 여러 인디 음악을 소개하고 있다.

이번 골목길을 위한 믹스를 간단히 소개해본다면? 
요즘 즐겨 듣는 음악이다. 무겁지 않다.

디제이를 할 때 가장 즐거운 점은?
좋은 음악으로 사람들과 공간을 멋진 분위기로 리드할 때.

디제이를 시작 하게 된 계기는?
나는 꼬마였을 때부터 호기심이 많아 음악을 찾아 듣는 편이었다. 음악에 늘 관심이 있었고 디제잉은 늦게 배운 편이지만, 배우고 나서는 운이 좋게 여러 공연을 할 수 있었다.

해외에서 활동해 본 경험은? 한국과는 어떤 차이점이 있나
없다. 조만간 친구가 있는 곳으로 놀러 가 가볍게 공연해 보고 싶은 생각이 있다.

현재 한국의 언더씬에는 어떤 변화가 있다고 생각하나?
멋진 정체성을 가진 공간 혹은 그룹, 아티스트 등이 점점 많이 나올 것이라고 낙관적으로 생각한다.

본인의 음악 색깔을 간단히 정의해본다면?
아직 완벽하게 정립되어 있지 않지만 비교적 자유롭고 감성적인 것들을 좋아한다.

프로듀싱이나 작곡활동도 하고 있는지?
하고 있다. 전체적인 아트웍, 레이블 등도 아주 천천히 계획하고 있다. 작업이 끝나면 EP로 발매할 것이다.

요즘 가장 즐겨 듣는 트랙은?
Star slinger ‘Moet & Reese’

언제 틀어도 지겹지않고 좋다고 생각하는 트랙은?(오래된 곡도 상관 없음)
그런 곡은 정말 많다. 평소 좋아하는 곡은 Jai Paul ‘Jasmine’.

위 질문의 답변 외에 혹시 하고싶은 말이 있다면 자유롭게 한마디.
나는 작은 미디어를 친구들과 하고 있다. 상업적 욕심 없이 운영하고 있지만 그것을 통해 만난 사람들은 한 사람도 빠짐없이 모두 음악을 정말 좋아하고 그걸 통해 스스로의 삶을 빛나게 하는 사람들이었다. 음악을 좋아하는 것은 늘 기쁘고 자랑스러운 일이다.

Tell us about your mix for Golmokgil.
I just combined the songs I like listening to these days and tried to keep it light.

What is your favourite aspect of DJing?
I love to lead a place and people into a great atmosphere through music.

How did you start DJing?
I’ve had a great interest in music since I was little. I always loved music but learned DJing quite late. I got lucky and was able to perform later on.

Have you ever performed abroad? If yes any difference with Korea?
Not yet, I want to go see some friends abroad and try to participate in some events with them.

Do you think there has a been an evolution in the Korean underground scene?
I am optimistic about the fact that new interesting venues and groups will keep popping up.

What do you think is your musical color?
It’s not perfectly defined yet but I usually like free and emotional tracks.

Do you also produce?
I am. I’m currently working on the artworks label. Slowly…. When I finish everything up it will be released as an EP.

What is your favourite track to listen to these days?

What is the classic track that you never get tired of listening to?
There are a lot of tracks like that. If I have to choose one I’ll say Jai Paul ‘Jasmine’.

Anything else you wanna say that we didn’t cover ?
At the moment, I’m just making music with friends. There’s no serious business plan behind all of this but I’ve been fortunate to meet so many music people through it and these people have really brightened my life. I am always proud and happy to be apart of music.
