“La Ballade de Jim – Paradis”.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]I have seen your name on the poster lately. When did you decide to step into Club?
It was during late summer last year. In fact, I had been declining the number of proposals. I did not know how to use DJing equipment. Fortunately, I had a chance to use it and was able to have more enjoyable experiences, thanks to it.

You have played at Cakeshop. Many DJs want to stand on that stage.
It was possible thanks to Subbeat Crews’ help. It was a great opportunity and experience. I was quite surprised with how many came into see me although I was an opening DJ. It was memorable as it was the first time playing at the place where all think it is a regular dance club.

How was it? As a matter of fact, Mix tape does not necessarily take into account for dance floor, but playing live set at club is a different story.
First, I played more House music at Cakeshop. I am going to focus more on playing House music as a Club DJ. I actually do not play house set so often. Until now, I played more music based on Jazz Hiphop or Sampling. That is why few people commented or concluded that that “This is not the style of 7ip7o3’s” after listening to my house set. But, I do not want to define my style with specific genres. Purple can be made with a mixture of red and blue. As such, my music style can be varied little more. As long as you enjoy it. [chuckles]

Sometimes, there needs title. Do you find your favorite music has any consistent factors?
More melodical, having repeating baseline and warmth, rather than being static

To DJs, mix tape is used as a tool to sell themselves. But you, 7ip7o3, are not using it for that reason, which interested us.
I saw one of my friends making mix tapes one day. That got my attention and made me to start it. But recently, I am interested in making music. I am not sure how much energy I will put on it right now, but I do want to release my own music soon or later.

Do you have any mix tapes so far to mention again?
“412 Everything”. It is the one that dissolves my emotions at best. Note that 412 is the date of one’s birthday whom I had the most intense encounter with.

Who is your favorite artist?
When I was young, I liked artists who do Sibuya music such as FreeTEMPO. I can say that my music was able to be born after listening to their music. Lately, I prefer Musicians from French music or artists who use synth.

Which song do you listen most often lately?
“La Ballade de Jim – Paradis”. I like its heavy atmosphere.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/25858463″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

How do you find new music when you feel you need it?
If I really do want to find the new, I pick it randomly from its album cover. Or I go through youtube or soundcloud.

Do you find the one from reference only? For instance, music from certain periods, countries, etc.
Sure, because each music from different periods of time and countries certainly has its own characteristics, when I want to find out more about the period that my favorite genres were popular, or countries in which my favorite artists from, and research on the feelings and music style of their countries, I do look up.

Seems like each DJ has different habit on listening to music. Are you the one who listens steadily everyday with the fixed amount of music like you do your homework, or who listens whenever you feel like you want to?
I am closer to the latter one. It is tiring if you listen like you do homework. Also, good music sometimes can be discovered unexpectedly. Listening to musics itself is somewhat ‘resting’, and I tend to have one during the day. Whenever I move, or visit cafe and listen to its music, and find it really good…

Do you prefer to share your track lists from the stage set?
One thing I can say is that the matter of sharing your track lists really depends on DJs. I don’t feel reluctance on doing it so, but time to time, there are few listeners who request my track lists rudely. DJs spend their time and effort to discover the songs, and people think they can take it for granted. When that happens, it feels little hard. I hope they can understand that all DJs have their secret weapons.

Shall we talk about something casual? Do you have any cafe you go often?
There are one in front of my place which has minimalistic interior, and Ways of Seeing at Hannam-dong.

Any hobbies aside from music?
I often draw, read books of poems, or cook.

This was the last question for today’s interview. Thank you![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]
