Gr◯un土 started as a DJ from the end of his teenage years and has played all over Japan with Osaka’s underground music scene as his base. He organizes and DJ’s at a music festival called Chill Mountain in the mountains surrounding Osaka and he has hosted the festival for over 10 years now. We are very proud to have such an outstanding talent for our very first ASIA CONNECTION Mixtape.

Ground는 10대가 끝날 때 쯤 디제이를 시작해, 오사카의 언더그라운드 씬을 기반으로 플레이를 해왔다. 그리고 오사카의 산 속에서 진행되는 Chill Mountain 페스티벌에서 10년 넘도록 플레이와 기획을 담당해오고 있다. 그의 놀라운 능력을 우리의 첫 ASIA CONNECTION을 통해 소개한다는 것을 매우 자랑스럽게 생각한다.

안녕하세요  DJ Gr◯un土 , 몇달 전에 Codex 파티에서  DJ Gr◯un土 의 음악을 듣고 너무 좋았는데, 이렇게 저희 골목길의 새로운 시리즈인 “아시아 컨넥션” 에 첫번째 게스트로 만나게 되어 너무 기대됩니다. 그 날 피스틸에서 공연한게 해외공연으로써는 처음이었나요?
일본을 제외하고는 한국이 지금까지 제가 플레이하고있는 유일한 곳입니다. 일본과 가까운 한국이라는 나라의 클럽 씬이 어떻게 발전되었는지는 관심이 있었고, 일본과 다른 문화, 다른 센스를 가진 사람들과 함께하여 너무 흥분됬었습니다. 사운드 클라우드에서 만난 Akimbo 덕분에 제게 이런 기회가 생겼습니다, 저도 그를 일본으로 부르기도 했는데, 매우 좋은 친구입니다.

네 맞습니다, 듣기로는 Akimbo 와 함께 진행중인 프로젝트가 있다고 들었습니다.
네,  “Akimbo＋GR◯UN土” 의 특별한 영혼 바이닐이 2016년 봄에 출시됩니다. 이건 제게도 매우 특별한 프로젝트입니다, 더 많은 정보도 곧 전달해 드리겠습니다. 그리고 또한 저는 저의 두번째 앨범의 발매도 계획중입니다.

우리는 그라운드의 믹스를 들어봤습니다, 정말 솔직하게 너무 좋아요, 이 믹스에 대해 조금 얘기해주실수있나요?
이 믹스는 Grassroots tokyo 에서 열렸던  “Hang” 이라는 파티에서 저의 믹스를 라이브로 녹음한것입니다. 제게도 흥미로운건 이 믹스에서 라이브 느낌이 많이 묻어나온다는것입니다, 맥주 한잔 하면서 들으면 더 좋을꺼에요

하하 , 네 조만간 우리도 맥주마시고 다시 들어봐야겠어요, 오사카에 있는 당신들은 매우 활동적인것처럼 보여요, 디제이 그리고 곡작업을 논 스탑으로 하고 있는것같아요, 또한 많은 아티스트와 패션 디자이너 그리고 화가까지 알고 계실뿐더러 오사카 근처에서 열리는 칠리 마운틴 페스티벌이라는 페스티벌도 만들고 있다고 들었어요, 어떤 계기로 디제이에 빠지게 되셨나요?
저는 사람들이 음악으로 느낌을 공유할수 있다고 생각합니다, 전 이런 점을 좋아하고요, 저는 십대 후반에 예전부터 친구들이 초대해주고 하였던 클럽 Firefly 라는 곳에서 첫 디제이를 했습니다. 그러나 아직도 많은 연습이 더 필요하다고 생각합니다.

에이, 당신은 너무 잘 하고 있습니다. 인터뷰를 마치기전에, 당신이 주로 영감을 받았던 것들 중 하나를 소개해 주시겠습니까? 아마 오래된 음악이라던가, 앨범, 당신이 전혀 지겹지않은 그런것이 있다면?
제 전자음악의 뿌리, 그리고 진정한 클래식은 “Mother 2” 의 사운드 트랙들입니다. 이 앨범은 정말 좋은 앨범이에요.

Hello and welcome, DJ Gr◯un土. Thanks for joining us. We’ve had the pleasure to hear you at one of the Codex parties a few months ago and we are very excited to have you as our very first guest for our “Asian connection” series. Was that night in Pistil the first time you played abroad?

Except for Japan, South Korea is the only country I’ve been playing so far, yes. I was very excited about the differences and everyone’s sense here she it’s interesting to see how much the club scene has raised in nearby countries. I had this opportunity because I met Akimbo on Soundcloud. We also invited him over to Japan. Very nice guy.

Yes, indeed. We heard that you two are working on a project together….

Yes exactly, “Akimbo＋GR◯UN土” Special Sprit Vinyl will be released in Spring 2016. This is a very special thing and more infos are coming soon. I’m also planning to release my second album.

We just listened to the mixtape that you’ve made for us. It is outstanding, honestly! Please tell us a bit about it.

This mix is actually the live recording of my set at a party called “Hang” at Grassroots in Tokyo.
I think that it is interesting to live feeling come out. Please try with beer… ?

Haha…yep, we’ll definitely give it another go! You guys in Osaka seem to be very active anyway. You’re DJing and producing non-stop basically, you are acquainted with painters, fashion designers and many other artists, and you’re also organizing a festival called Chill Mountain near Osaka. How come you got into DJing?

I think that people can share a sense that is beyond words through music – and I like that. I began to DJ in club “FireFly” after being invited by some friends. I started in my late teens, but  I still have to practise a lot, I guess…

Well, you’re definitely doing great. Before we finish, would you please share one of your inspirations with us – maybe a classic track or album that you never get tired of?

My electric roots and a real classic is the ”Mother 2” soundtrack. It’s a great album.
